“Works With Simplex” testing eSIM for IoT devices

It’s now been a few months since we started the “Works With Simplex” program where we have been testing different devices and if they support the SIM only eSIM of SGP.32 by having the IPA implemented in the eUICC as an IPAe. This depends on how the Device or if the Module allows the UICC (SIM card) to open an TCP/IP channel with the BIP command.

We’ve learned that it’s really hit or miss on what devices or modules support it. Earlier we wrote the article “Devil’s in the Details” where we discovered that two identical devices with different Module Configurations had different behaviors, the USA configuration was able to open the BIP channel and the European version was not.

In a way this is surprising as SGP.02 (M2M eSIM spec) used the same mechanism for channel opening and it was introduced in 2013 over 10 years ago. So, it’s clear that BIP support is still not fully propagated into devices, but we believe that shining the light on it and doing this service will help its progress.

We’ve had quite a bit of success so far! Since the launch we’ve successfully confirmed over a dozen devices!

This being said, if you would like to have your device verified on the “Works With Simplex” to ensure it is compatible with the SIM only IPAe implementation of the SGP.32 we are glad to test your device and add it to the list!
