Why Simplex Wireless IoT SIM Cards Outperform the Competition
March 24, 2025What are the Top 5 FAQ’s we receive almost at a daily basis at Simplex Wireless?
We love talking with our customers as we love seeing the world from their perspective to make our services better. We notice that some of the questions puzzle our customer base more than others and we decided to complie the Top 5 questions and answers into today’s article?
1. Can you steer the Network Selection from your SIM card?
This is by far the most common question. As our SIM card has the ability to utilize multiple networks in a country such as AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Networks in USA and Rogers, Bell, TELUS in Canada it poses a lot of questions on how the network selection happens. The short version of the answer is that our SIM card does not perform any steering of network selection but we leave it to the device to make a decision. How does the device select the network? You can dive in deeper into that topic in this previous article we did: https://www.simplexwireless.com/2024/06/25/understanding-mobile-network-selection-debunking-common-myths/
2. Do I have to set an APN on the device?
Setting the APN on the device is getting better and easier as time goes forward and many times a device is able to discover it on its own. It’s a hit and miss if the OEM has decided to implement a APN discovery feature on the device weather it is able to do it. We compiled all the different methods of having APNs work with eSIMs on this article: https://www.simplexwireless.com/2024/10/21/apn-settings-with-esim-management/
3. Do you support Public/Private IP addresses?
Weather our SIM card supports Private / Public IP Addresses comes up a lot, unfortunately the answer is no, we do not support it. Our SIM cards have non-public routable private IP-addresses as do the majority of cellular connections in the world. How the remote access to the cellular connected device is solved is either by using our Virtual-IP layer or using the methods that the device makers have devised like described in this article: https://www.simplexwireless.com/2024/07/22/how-can-i-remote-connect-to-my-iot-device-that-is-connected-to-the-network-with-a-cellular-connection-and-has-a-private-ip-address-1388/
4. What network coverage does your SIM provide?
Telecom segment is a constantly evolving with new technology. The main Network Tech for IoT device is 4G LTE and LTE-M with NB-IoT losing momentum. The next wave is made from 5G and 5G RedCap and 5G NTN. Simplex does support all the network access technologies as an Independent Connectivity Services Provider. We have the flexibility to source access from the leading sources. We put an article out there analysing 5G RedCap already last year seeing where it’s going to go https://www.simplexwireless.com/2024/01/22/how-to-prepare-for-5g-redcap-reduced-capacity-for-your-iot-projects/
5. Can I activate my SIM card with APIs?
Yes, you can! Our intuitive APIs allow effortless SIM activation, management, and real-time monitoring. Integrate our API seamlessly into your workflow for instant activations, simplified billing management, and proactive connectivity insights, putting you in complete control of your IoT solutions.
